William Paul Camp

U.S. Veteran

William P. Camp, 91, of North Ridgeville and formerly of Elyria, died peacefully Monday, October 15, 2012 surrounded by family at EMH Healthcare. Bill was born November 22, 1920 in Youngstown, OH and graduated from Youngstown University. He served with the U.S. Army in WWII in India and Ceylon, under the command of Lord Mountbatten. After his discharge from the service, Bill received his M.B.A. from Whartons School of Finance. After graduation, he was employed his entire career at Abex Corporation, retiring as Comptroller in 1982. His second career was as a stockbroker for Pierre R. Smith, MacDonald & Company and UBS. Bill was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ and Elyria Rotary, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He served on the board of directors of the Elyria Salvation Army and the Elyria Public Library during the building of the West River Branch of the Library. He was active with the Investment Club, Gashouse Gang, the Roundtable Book Club and a member of the Elyria Country Club. Bill made friends with every person he met, charming them with his easygoing nature and affable sense of humor. Bill is survived by his beloved wife Betty Bergman Camp; daughters Mary Beth Camp of Portland, OR, Sue Camp Rafferty of Irving, TX; sons William P. Camp, Jr. of Vanlue, OH and Robert L. Camp of San Francisco, CA; six grandchildren, and his sister Rita Iadarola of Napa, CA. He was preceded in death by wives Susanna Margaret Camp in 1964 and Esther Young Camp in 2002. A memorial service will be Friday, October 19, 2012 at 11a.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 330 Second Street, Elyria, OH with Reverend Christina Kukuk officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Brookdale Cemetery with Elyria V.F.W. #1079 conducting military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational United Church of Christ music department. Dicken Funeral Home, Elyria is in charge of arrangements.
