Malcolm S. Tobias

U.S. Veteran

Malcolm S. Tobias, 86, died October 21, 2012 at Anchor Lodge in Lorain. He was born September 23, 1926 in Shamokin, Pennsylvania. Malcolm served with the U.S. Army during WWII as a tank driver in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and lived in Elyria from 1947 until moving to Vermilion in 1995. He was employed for 39 years as a tool and die maker at Ridge Tool Company in Elyria, retiring in 1988. He was a 59 year member of Elyria Lodge # 787, member of Al Koran Shrine, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Cleveland, Lorain County Shrine Club and Lorain County Scottish Rite Society. He was also a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, Vermilion, Elyria V.F.W. # 1079, Elyria American Legion Post 12, Elyria AmVets Post 32 and Elyria United Polish Club. He was a former 25 year member of the barbershop chorus, Elyria Cascade Cordsman, had been an assistant Boy Scout Master and enjoyed swimming. Malcolm is survived by his wife of 67 years, Hannah E. (nee Fetterman); sons Richard L Tobias of Bayonet Point, Florida, Melvin J. Tobias of Wakeman, Ohio and Toby E. Tobias of Lorain, Ohio; grandchildren, Justin Tobias, Jennifer Keller and Alexis and Courtney Tobias; great grandchildren, Madeline and Drew Tobias; sister Hilda Conry and brothers Lee Tobias, Leon Tobias and Jim Tobias, all of Elyria. He was preceded in death by a son Lewis L. Tobias in 2012; grandson Nicholas Adam Tobias; parents Lewis and Mattie Tobias and sisters, Thelma Derr and Charlotte Tobias. Friends will be received Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from 5:00 PM until the time of a 7:30 PM Masonic Service at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A funeral service will be Wednesday October 31, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with Reverend Cliff Morris officiating. Entombment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lakeview Baptist Church, Giving Tree Fund, 591 Ferndale Avenue, Vermilion, Ohio, 44089.
