Mackie Delano Shilling

Mackie Delano Shilling, 75, passed away on October 14, 2012, as a result of a stroke at his home in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. He was born November 1, 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio and was a 1954 graduate of Elyria High School, lettering in football, basketball and baseball. He attended The Kiski School and was a graduate of The University of Michigan. He was employed at the university for many years as athletic trainer, including for the Michigan football team that won the 1965 Rose Bowl. Mackie had also worked as a sales representative for Monsanto Company selling Astroturf and for Magnavox and Krementz Jewelry. He was most recently an owner/operator of Grandy’s Restaurants in Charleston, South Carolina. Mackie is survived by his wife, Lilless McPherson Shilling; daughter, Paz McPherson Shilling, both of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; sisters Sue (Alan) Shilling Polansky of Wroclaw, Poland, Kay Shilling Brubaker of Tampa, Florida, and Joan (Gary) Shilling Lipinski of Russell, Pennsylvania; brother, Terry S. “Pete” Shilling of Elyria, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Anne Shilling in 1969; father, Raymond L. Shilling in 1994 and mother, Alice A. Shilling in 2000. A celebration of Mackie’s life and journey was held October 21, 2012, on the beach at Station 18, Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina. For online condolences visit www.dickenfuneralhome.com.
