Ruth M. Billings (nee: Bauer), 79, died November 8, 2012 at her home in Elyria. She was born November 15, 1932 in Elyria and was a 1950 graduate of Elyria High School. She was employed for 25 years at Elyria High School, retiring as secretary to the principal in 1990. Ruth was a member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ, American Legion Post 12 Auxiliary and Elyria Womens Senior Fellowship. She enjoyed spending time at her lake home in Marblehead and attending sales and auctions to add to her various collections. Other interests included the O.V.I. in Sheffield Lake, playing the organ, piano and chimes, gardening and was known to be a competitive game and card player. Ruth is survived by sons, Ronald C. (Melinda nee: Renner) Billings of Elyria and Thomas A. (Cathy nee: Proch) Billings of Toledo; grandsons, Grant, Seth, Nathan and Nicholas Billings, a sister, Louise Shisler of Warsaw, Indiana, and eight nieces and nephews, including Donna (James) Backs of Elyria. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, William F. Billings in 2006; parents Fred and Ella (nee: Stranahan) Bauer and brothers, Gilbert and Harold Bauer. Friends will be received Saturday November 17, 2012 from 12:30 PM until the time of a 2:00 PM memorial service at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. Reverend Janet A. Long will officiate with burial in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Elyria Public Library Foundation, 320 Washington Avenue, Elyria, 44035 or Elyria City Schools Endowment Fund, c/o Community Foundation of Lorain County, 9080 Leavitt Road, Elyria, 44035.
