George F. Frazier

U.S. Veteran

George F. Frazier, 71, of Elyria, died Wednesday April 3, 2013 following a two year illness, at home, surrounded by his family. He was born October 15, 1941 in Dawson, Georgia. George served in the United States Air Force for eleven years and received an honorable discharge in 1972. He received his B.A. Degree in Political Science from Cleveland State University. He taught in the public service department of Lorain County Community College from 1973-2011. George was an engineer at U.S. Steel for ten years and was later employed with Nordson Corp., retiring after twenty two years of service in 2009. He was an active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church where he served on the vestery, building and grounds and sang in the choir. George enjoyed jazz and blues and was a member of the band Dupree, where he played saxophone and was instrumental in starting the Labor Day Jazz Festival. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Gwendolyn (nee: Miller); sons, Christopher, Eric (Erica) and Jonathan (Jenna) all of Valparaiso, Indiana; daughters, Allison Harris (Jemel) of Cleveland, Ohio and Tilisha of Valparaiso, Indiana; brother, Douglas of Augusta, Georgia; sister, Joi of Atlanta, Georgia; special nephew, David Wright; 13 grandchildren; nieces; nephews and friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Wyoline Frazier; step-mother, Deborah Frazier and a sister, Trilbye.

The family would like to thank Cleveland Clinic Hospice, the Holt family, Horace Jacocks and members of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church for there prayers and support.

Friends will be received Friday April 5, 2013 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A funeral service will be Saturday April 6, 2013 at 11:00 AM in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 300 3rd Street, Elyria. The Reverend Melanie Sunderland will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the church.
