Caryl Ann Bunnell

Caryl Ann Bunnell (nee Spencer), 80, of Lorain, died March 20, 2024.  She was born October 19, 1943 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and was raised in Minto, New Brunswick, Canada by adoptive parents, Wilfred and Esther Spencer.  She moved to the US in 1963 to begin a career as a nanny.  Caryl was a nanny to over 40 children, having served families in New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Ohio.  She enjoyed children and watching them grow.  For over 55 years, she had been a faithful member and servant of The Salvation Army of Elyria, fulfilling positions when needed as teacher, leader, soldier, etc. 

Caryl is survived by children, Weldon (Karen) Hawk, Wendy (Robert) Basch and Wayne Whaley; step-children, Betty Sargeant, Vicky Harsh, Fran Uhaly, Bernie Hall, Pat Sapp, Bobby Bunnell, Jr., Ed Bunnell and Tom Bunnell.   She was also blessed with many beautiful grand and great-grandchildren that she loved dearly. 

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Donald William Whaley in 1973 and Robert Wilson Lee Bunnell in 2012; parents; adoptive brothers, Grant and Weldon Corey and step-sons, Paul and James Bunnell.

Friends will be received Wednesday March 27, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria.  Friends will also be received Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 11:00 am until the time of a noon service at The Salvation Army, 716 Broad Street, Elyria with Major Robert Sears officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army.
