Abbie Farrand Obituary

Abigail “Abbie” Farrand (nee Hultz), 90, of Elyria, OH passed away late Friday, November 1, 2024 (6 days before her 91st birthday). She was born November 7, 1933 to Gerald & Margaret (nee Hancock) Hultz in Elyria, where she lived most of her life.

Abbie was a 1951 graduate of Elyria High School, where she played volleyball and was the president of the DECA Club. She was also a member of the YWCA & Y-Maters for several years.

Abbie loved the outdoors, whether she was taking walks, bird watching, bike riding, planting/growing flowers & vegetables, and started camping in the late 60's. She loved being outside so much that she was known to take her sewing machine outside instead of sitting inside the camper. She liked to swim and lay out in the sun – it was about the only time she stopped moving! Abbie had some interesting adventures: scuba diving in the Bahamas, riding in a hot air balloon, and even skydiving (at age 78) with Glenn and her grandsons. After she and Glenn married in 1995 they would go south for the winter visiting several states and spending a lot of time in Texas with side trips to Mexico. No need for hotels, they pulled their house with them – a large 5th wheel! In the summer they lived at a campground in Spencer, OH. She enjoyed traveling throughout the USA and Canada. She and Jack (former husband) traveled to Germany with side trips to France and Switzerland when they visited Judy while she was in the Army stationed in Germany.

Abbie worked at Sweet Cream Donut Shop, was a bus driver and educational monitor for Midview Schools, and drove bus for M.B. Johnson School of Nursing students. When they stopped transporting the students, the hospital (EMH) liked her so much they brought her inside to work. She began in the messenger/mail room and eventually learning how to do EKGs, which is the job she did until she retired in 1995.

Abbie is survived by her daughters, Jane Corts of Elyria and Judy (Jim) Kraps of Litchfield; son, John (Barb) Corts of Pleasantville, PA; grandsons, Johnny (Keri) Corts of Newfield, NY and Mike (Raeann) Corts of Louisville, KY; great-granddaughters Fiona and Elara Corts of Newfield, NY; a great-grandson due in January 2025 of Louisville, KY; sisters, Susan (Larry) Luther of Wellington and Jennifer (Bob) Ring of Elyria, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, Glenn F. Farrand in 2020; former husband, Jack D. Corts in 1999; parents Gerald B. Hultz in 1977 and Margaret C. Hultz in 1964 and her beloved dachshund, Oscar in 2011.
