Alex V. Horvath, 93, of Carlisle Township, died Sunday September 7, 2025. He was born January 10, 1932, in Elyria and was a 1949 graduate of Elyria High School. From 1951-1954 he served in the US Navy (aboard the USS Valcour during the Korean War). He worked as a machinist, eventually retiring from Amherst Metal Products. Alex was a member of Community of Faith United Church of Christ, Elyria American Legion Post 12 and played fast pitch softball for many years. He enjoyed working in the yard, tinkering in his workshop, rooting for the Cleveland Guardians and being a husband, dad and “boppa”.
Alex is survived by daughters, Diane Horvath of North Ridgeville, Brenda (Steven) Silver of Chattanooga, TN and Patricia (Shane) Wassink of Clymer, NY; grandchildren, Ryan (Brittany) Silver, Mark Silver, Alyssa (Michael) Gates, Alexis, Hunter and Roman Wassink and a great-grandson, Calvin Silver.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Joann A. (nee Youngblood) in 2015; parents, Alex and Helen Horvath and a sister, Dorothy Garcia.
Friends will be received Friday, September 12, 2025 from 10:00 am until noon at Community of Faith United Church of Christ, 9715 East River Road, Elyria, followed by a service with Reverend Delisa Buckingham-Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township where Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will present military honors.
