Alice R. Hovatter

Alice R. Hovatter (nee Upton), 89, of Carlisle Township, died Wednesday March 12, 2025 in her home.  She was born March 19, 1935 in Philippi, WV, graduated from Philippi High School and moved to Elyria in 1956.  Alice was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Elyria.  She enjoyed gardening, canning and was an excellent baker.  She loved roses and spending time with her grandchildren and her little dog, Toro.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Linda Cooper) Hovatter of Elyria; sons, Larry (Anne) of Grafton, Eric (Donna) of Elyria and Alan Hovatter of Grafton; grandchildren, Ashleigh (Andrew Arndt) Hovatter, Jessica Whorton, Samantha (Kellan) Gatzemeyer, Christina (Logan Grove) Hovatter, Rebecca Hovatter, Lisa (Hatem) Chourabi, Heather Hyer and Caitlin Hyer and  great-grandchildren, Bentley, Barrett, Briar, Lucas, Ethan, Kinsleigh, Alexa, Malia, Lily, Lena, Hayla and Hidaya.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Glenn D. in 2018; parents, Edward and Ottis Upton; brother, Lloyd William Upton and sisters, Julia Justine Upton Jones and Ellen Jean Upton O’Neal.

A special thanks to her caregiver, Destiny Rhodes from Assisting Hands Home Care and Buckeye Hospice for the great care given. 

Friends will be received Monday, March 17, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 10:00 am until the time of an 11:00 am service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria.  Pastor Jeff Smith will officiate.  Burial will follow in River Road Cemetery, LaGrange.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lorain County Dog Kennel, 301 Hadaway Street, Elyria, OH 44035.
