Bernice D. Johns

Bernice D. Johns (nee Clinesmith), 89, of Carlisle Township, died Saturday, September 25, 2010 at her home after a lengthy illness.

She was born January 23, 1921 in Lafayette, OH and graduated from Chatham High School. She has been a resident of Carlisle Township most of her life.

She was a member of LaPorte United Methodist Church for over fifty years where she was active with Ruth Circle, choir and she taught Sunday school. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, bowling and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bernice is survived by her sons Dennis L.(Judy) Johns of Elyria and David K. (Kathy) Johns of Phoenix, AZ; daughter Marilyn K. (Kirk) Thompson of Alpharetta, GA; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Kenneth V. Johns in 1990, parents Earl & Gertrude (nee Stackhouse) Clinesmith, sisters Blanche Kreiger, Myrtle Hofacker and Leona Johns and brothers Elmer and Lloyd Clinesmith and a great grandson, Alexander Sukel.

Her family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave. Elyria, where a funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday. Reverend Jonathan McCleery will officiate and burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
