Betty A. Salisbury (née Phillips), 77, of Elyria, passed away peacefully Friday, October 24, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Born August 25, 1948, in Coshocton, Ohio, Betty was a 1966 graduate of Coshocton High School. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Kent State University in 1970 and a master’s degree in education from Ashland University.
A dedicated educator, Betty spent nearly her entire 35-year career teaching fifth grade at Ely Elementary School, where she retired in 2005. Known for her kindness, patience, and passion for teaching, she made a lasting impact on countless students and families. Her colleagues became a second family, and she truly loved going to work each day.
Betty was a devoted member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Elyria. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, knitting, cheering for her beloved Cleveland sports teams, and, above all, spending time with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
She is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Clifford W. Salisbury; daughter, Kimberly (Daniel) Howell (née Oros) of Sunbury, Ohio; son, Kyle Boggs of Lakewood; and her grandchildren, Caleb (Annalise) Howell, Lauren Howell, and River Partin.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Margaret Phillips; her sister, Kay Phillips; and her stepson, Mark Salisbury.
Betty will be remembered for her generous spirit, warm smile, quick wit and unwavering love for her friends and family. Her legacy lives on in all those whose lives she touched.
A memorial service will be Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 11:00am at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 330 Second Street, Elyria with Reverend Patrick Nicolino officiating. Burial will be in South Lawn Cemetery, Coshocton.
