Charles F. Bruce, 83, of Elyria, died Sunday, August 18, 2024 at University Hospitals of Cleveland. He was born February 4, 1941 in Elyria, attended Elyria High School and was a lifelong Lorain County resident. From 1964-1966, Chuck served with the US Army, stationed in Vietnam. He was employed at York International from 1961 until the closing in 2001. He was a member of LaPorte United Methodist Church. Chuck enjoyed time with his family and working on puzzles, but his favorite pastime was designing prints to color. He traveled with his wife throughout the United States and also took several cruises, including one to the Mediterranean. For many years, he and Carolyn enjoyed Western Square Dancing.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Jean (nee Rhea); sons, Charles Bruce, Jr. and Kenneth L. Bruce (Karen Korka); stepson, Kevin Carmel; grandchildren, Justin Bruce (Christiana Barone), Alexis Bruce (Greg Shafer) and Anthony (Leah) Monschein; great-grandchildren, Austin, Ethan and Isaiah Monschein and Logan and McKenzie Shafer and a brother, Alfred Bruce.
He was preceded in death by parents, Carl and Julia (nee Barth) Bruce; siblings, Dorothy Freeland, Esther Hayes and Gerald Bruce and a sister-in-law, Marge Bruce.
Friends will be received Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A funeral service will be Friday, August 23, 2024 at 12:30 pm in the funeral home with Reverend William Baker officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon where Elyria VFW 1079 Honor Guard will present military honors.
