David Lee Welch, 57, of Elyria, went home to be with his Lord, Friday, May 28, 2010 at his home after a short illness.

He was born July 23, 1952 in Gary, IN and attended Indiana State University, before working at the steel mills in Gary, IN. He also lived in Anchorage, AK, where he was a social worker and moved to Burlington, Kentucky and studied nursing at Northern Kentucky University. He moved to Elyria and received his degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse from LCCC. He had been employed at Fairview Hospital as a patient care assistant since 2006 and recently as an L.P.N. at the Wesleyan Village in Elyria.

David was a passionate person, strong in his faith and proudly proclaimed his faith in God. He enjoyed his family, hunting big game and gardening.

He enjoyed vintage cars, hot rods and was especially fond of his 1937 Cadillac LaSalle.

He is survived by his wife Visobe O. Welch of Elyria; daughters Angela P. Welch of Anchorage, AK, Christine E. Lucero of Austin, TX, Jessica L. Danley of San Antonio, TX and Chisomo Selemani of Elyria; son Jonathan M. Welch of Norfolk, VA; 5 grandchildren; brothers Myron Welch of Melbourne, FL, Robert Welch of Anchorage, AK, Samuel Welch of Burlington, KY; sisters E.D. Williams of Columbus, OH, Pearlee Bloodsaw of Burlington, KY and Mary Connoly of Newnan, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parents Nolen and Bessie Lee (nee Roundtree) Welch and brothers Dewiller and Nolan Welch.

Visitation will be Monday, May 31, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave. Elyria. Visitation will also be Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of an 11:30 a.m. service at Church of the Open Door, 43275 Telegraph Rd., Elyria. Pastor Dan Samms will officiate and burial will be in Burlington, KY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Among Women, 364 Griswold Rd., Elyria, OH 44035.
