Dorothy Ann Duplessie (nee Hajkowicz), 95, of Elyria, died October 21, 2023. She was born February 1, 1928 in Iron River, Michigan, was a 1945 graduate of Iron River High School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1949 from Eastern Michigan University. Dorothy met Tom in 1952 in Wyandotte when she was a Lab Technician and was introduced by his sister. They corresponded while he was in the Navy and were married November 27, 1954. In 1964, she and her husband and son moved to Elyria and she received her Master of Education degree in 1970 and an Education Specialist degree in 1981 from Kent State University. From 1965 until retiring in 1986, Dorothy was employed as an elementary school teacher at Spring Valley and Erie Schools in Elyria. She was a member of St. Mary Church and The Garden Club of Elyria. For many years, she knitted hats, scarves and mittens for newborns and children at Elyria Memorial Hospital as she was a member of the Knit Wits. From 1986 to 2015, she and her husband spent the winters in Sarasota, FL. They had also traveled to Europe, Canada, Mexico and Hawaii. In addition to traveling, she enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and knitting.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 68 years, Thomas A. Duplessie, Sr.; son, Thomas A. (Donna) Duplessie, Jr.; grandsons, Matthew, Trey (Cheryl) and Brenton Duplessie and great-grandchildren, Tyson, Charlotte and Cora Duplessie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Mary Hajkowicz; brother, Ellsworth Joseph Hajkowicz and a sister, Ruth Kempa.

Friends will be received Saturday, October, 28, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:45 am at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A funeral mass will follow at 12:00 pm at St. Mary Church, 320 Middle Avenue, Elyria. Reverend Charles T. Diedrick will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
