Dorothy A. (Sumpter) Pugh, 69 of Elyria, passed away on April 16, 2011 following a lengthy illness caused by Progressive Supranuclear Palsey (PSP).
She was born in Gassaway, WV, coming to Ohio as an infant. She grew up in Wellington and graduated from Wellington High School in 1959.
Dorothy married James G. Pugh in 1961. They moved to Elyria in 1965, where she started working for the Elyria Public School System and eventually became secretary at Spring Valley Elementary School for over 20 years until 1997.
Her favorite hobbies were sewing for her family, crocheting, tole painting, counted cross stitch and many other activities.
Dorothy was a member of LaPorte United Methodist Church for many years. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, James; daughters Lisa Pugh and Nancy (Pugh) Frankland (Dave) and granddaughter, Erin Frankland. She is also survived by her brothers Harold Sumpter (Donna), James Sumpter, Jack Sumpter (Pat) and Mike Sumpter (Tiffany), nieces and nephews and many relatives from James family.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents James Clifford Sumpter and Orpha (Smarr) Sumpter.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dorothy A. Dottie Pugh will be held 11:00a.m Saturday, May 21, 2011 at LaPorte United Methodist Church, 2071 Grafton Rd., Elyria, OH. The Reverend Jonathan M. McCleery will preside. Luncheon will be served following the service.
