Douglas Taylor Obituary

Douglas L. Taylor, 75, of Sheffield Lake, died August 2, 2024 at UH Seidman Cancer Center, Cleveland after a 15 month illness.  He was born September 16, 1948 in Elyria to proud parents, George and Violet (nee Murch) Taylor, the eldest of three children.  He was a 1966 graduate of Elyria High School and attended Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College, Grand Rapids, MI.  He was a charter member of Abbe Road Baptist Church, Elyria.  Doug was a life time member of the 103rd O.V.I. Memorial Foundation, being a descendant of two great-great-grandfathers who fought with that regiment in the Civil War. He retired as an industrial engineer from Parker Hannifin Corporation in 2003, moving to Zephyrhills, FL where he was employed at Walmart, retiring as an assistant manager.  Doug then worked as a customer service representative and then as a courier delivering medical equipment, helping friends who were starting small businesses.  After finally retiring for the fourth time, he and his wife became snowbirds, spending the winters in Zephyrhills. Doug also enjoyed genealogy (making family tree books for friends and family), cooking, raising cockatiels, traveling in his Winnebago motor home and participating in local community theatre musicals. 

Doug is survived by his wife of 45 years, LuAnne Sheffield Taylor; son, Jeffrey R. (Aimee) Taylor; daughters, Abigail C. (Brandon) May and Rebecca C. (Andy) Castle; grandchildren, Isaiah Taylor, Delilah Taylor, Joshuah Taylor, Wesley Castle, Tabithah Taylor, Emma May, Ethan May, Carson Castle, Jeremiah Taylor, Elizabeth May and Elijah May and a brother, Barry (Sharon) Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cynthia J. Wysocki and a daughter, Jennifer K. Taylor.

Friends will be received Monday, August 12, 2024 from 10:00 am until the time a 12:00 pm service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria with Pastor Cal Searles officiating.  Burial will follow in Pittsfield East Cemetery, State Route 303, Pittsfield.
