Elmira Sorrell, 92, a lifelong Lorain County resident, died Thursday, January 23, 2025. She was born May 30, 1932 and was a 1951 graduate of Elyria High School. She went on to a career with Keystone Local Schools and at the time of her retirement in 1996, she served as Kitchen Manager.
Elmira loved her many grandchildren and enjoyed a tradition of taking her granddaughters to visit the basket-shaped Longaberger corporate office in Newark, Ohio. She was a brand devotee and filled her kitchen with Longaberger baskets and bakeware. She loved spending time cooking and baking for her family and was an avid reader of harlequin romance novels.
Elmira also had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, enjoying walks through local parks with her friends and regular walks around her Lagrange property.
She was a longtime member of TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) and served as the Secretary for her chapter for many years.
Elmira is survived by her sons, Robert (Carol), Scott (Janet) and Frank; grandchildren, Stacy Muratore (Lucas), Amanda Merrell, David Sorrell (Iryna), Janine Sullivan (Nick), Samantha Sorrell, Stephanie Sorrell, Kayla Sorrell and Shamus Sorrell and great-grandchildren, Mateo, Bella, Lily, Oliver, Charlie, Jameson and Harper.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Frank in 2007; infant son, Kevin; parents, Elmer and Ethel Crawford; sisters Beulah and Joann and a brother, Ray.
Friends will be received Saturday, February 1. 2025 from 10:00 am until the time of a noon service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria with Reverend Patrick Nicolino officiating. Burial will follow in River Road Cemetery, LaGrange.
