Our cherished mother, Evelyn Harbeck, 93, was called home to be with her Savoir Tuesday, May 20, 2025. She was born February 3, 1932 to Roy and Thelma Hedden in the rural Allegany Mountains of western New York. She married Donald Harbeck May 5, 1956 and together they moved to Elyria, Ohio in 1962.
Evelyn lived a life rooted in faith and devoted to her family. She was a woman of unwavering belief, whose love for the Lord and her family shown through every aspect of her life. She found strength in prayer and peace in the promises of God and His sovereign plan for her life. She now rests in the arms of her Savior free from pain, rejoicing in the presence of the Almighty and still praying for her family.
As a mother, Evelyn raised three sons with her husband Don, teaching them to work hard, love others, and serve God. After raising her children, Evelyn returned to college and earned a Master of Education degree from Ashland University. She had an enduring passion for teaching young schoolchildren and taught many years for the Elyria City School District at Cascade Elementary. She is remembered by countless students and colleagues as a caring teacher who greatly influenced future generations.
Evelyn is survived by sons, Jim (Judy), John (Heather) and Jay; grandchildren, Justine (Alex), Elizabeth, Jenna (Josiah), John Michael (Katie), Sarah (Travis), Levi and Julian; great grandchildren, Everly and Elliot and sisters, Carolyn and Marilyn.
We will remember her example and carry on her legacy. And while we grieve her passing, we find solace in the solid hope of resurrection and the assurance that we will all be reunited again in God’s eternal kingdom.
Lastly, the family would like to sincerely thank Hospice of the Western Reserve for their tender care of our mother through her journey and the dignified support shown to her family.
