George Thomas Aden
George Thomas Aden, 95, of Elyria, left his loved ones to join the Lord, Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Hospice of the Western Reserve at the Renaissance, Olmsted Falls, OH.
Born in a boxcar in Bruceton, TN to Hershal Brakin Aden and Viona Horton Aden on November 23, 1914, he shared his early boxcar home with siblings Clyde, Polly and Louise. His daddy was a railroad man and could have a seat on a train at anytime, but instead, chose to ride the rails with the hobos. George married the most beautiful girl in Tennessee May 10, 1936 when she was 17 and he was 21, and shared their lives for 74 years.
He came to Cleveland in 1942 to find work. He was employed for thirty years at the General Motors Metal Fabricating Division-Parma Plant, retiring in 1976, after which he returned to Tennessee for ten years before moving to Elyria in 1986.
He began the restoration of his beloved Laundon House in 1990. He was an active participant in West by the River, through which he and his wife welcomed thousands of visitors into their home during the many Victorian Christmas Tour of Homes.
When he was not working on his or one of his sons homes, he could be seen working in his yard and flower beds from morning until evening.
He loved his family and showed it in many ways: cutting grass, blowing snow, waxing cars, painting and baking the best biscuits in the world. He collected antiques, clocks and watches and attended many Rockwood Sales. He was a member of Sugar Ridge Baptist Church and was eager to help family, friends and neighbors.
He was known for I dont want to tell you what to do, but if it was me.
He was curious, tenacious and kind, with a great sense of humor, a true lover of life. He once had a pet squirrel and also played the harmonica. An adventuresome spirit, he was a lifelong Harley-Davidson Motorcycle enthusiast and rode a bike into his 80s.
George will be greatly missed by his wife Virginia L. (nee Dill) Aden; sons Thomas D. Aden of Elyria and Russ A. Aden of Wellington; granddaughter Nichole F. Aden; Grandson Chet A. Aden, both of Wellington; daughter-in-law Kathleen M. Kitty Aden; niece Anita Muskrat Boyd of Camden, TN and Mattie Lou The Boss.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave. Elyria. A funeral service will be Monday 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Michael A. Manosky officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
