Helen L. Thompson

Helen L. Thompson (nee Hunter), 88, passed away peacefully in her home Monday, July 5, 2010.

She was born October 23, 1921 in Orrville, OH, was a 1939 graduate of John Adams High School in Cleveland and has been a seventy year resident of Elyria and Grafton.

Helen was a legal secretary for the firms of Vandemark & Vandemark; Severs, Glavas & Boylan; and John S. Haynes. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Elyria; Elizabeth Stevens Society and Stephen Ministry of the church; Lorain County Historical Society; Elyria Historical Society; Carlisle Township Historical and Biographical Society; Friends of Lorain County Metro Parks; Elyria Musical Arts Society and a supporter of Workshop Players Drama Group and local theater productions; International Association of Administrative Professionals Black River Chapter and former member and secretary of the Board of Trustees of Ridge Hill Memorial Park Association. She volunteered with the R.S.V.P. and AARP Tax Aide Program. She was also past president of Order of Rainbow Girls and former member of Brentwood Gals Golf League.

Helen had a spirit of adventure and enjoyed traveling nationally and internationally with her friends Betty, Marj and Joan.

Helen is survived by a daughter Judith Ann (David) Espasandin; sons Gerald E. (Judy) Thompson and Ronald H. (Rita) Thompson, all of Elyria; twelve grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, Walter N. Thompson in 1989; daughter Karen Sue Monschein in 1994; mother Mary E. Hunter in 1988; father Russell W. Hunter in 1957 and a sister B. Dawn Looper in 2006.

Visitation will be Thursday 4 to 7 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave. Elyria. A funeral service will be Friday 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 312 Third Street, Elyria. Reverend Roger Talbott will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church or Lorain County Historical Society, 509 Washington Ave., Elyria, OH 44035
