Henry D. “Hank” Emilio, Jr., 72, of Elyria, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday September 24, 2025 at Ames Family Hospice House, Westlake. He was born May 25, 1953 in Binghamton, NY to Henry and Alice Emilio. Henry was a 1971 graduate of Oceanside High School in New York and a 1975 graduate of Wheaton College in Illinois. After completing his master’s degree at Kent State University, Henry began a 36-year teaching career with Elyria City Schools. Following retirement in 2015, he continued working with students at Open Door Christian Schools and in 2021 concluded a 40-year career as an educator. He attended Church of the Open Door for many years and served in church ministries. He enjoyed many hobbies, especially those he could share with his family. Photography, fishing, skiing, sailing, grilling, and making people laugh were some of his favorites; the results of a youthful vigor which he kept until the end. Above all, Henry’s Christian faith was the most important to him, inspiring his passion for helping others and his selfless spirit. He was kind and caring to everyone he encountered and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Henry is survived by his wife of 36 years, Amy J.; sons, Jeffrey (Leah) Emilio of Cleveland and Ryan Emilio of Lakewood; sister, Lorraine (Neal) Frank; aunts, Rita Emilio and Martha Alfonso; many nieces & nephews, beloved cousins, sisters and brothers-in-law, and other members of a large, loving family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends will be received Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 10:00 am until the time of a 12:00 pm service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria with Pastor John Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
