James T. Waldo

James T. Jim Waldo, 80, of Elyria Township, went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at EMH Regional Medical Center after a short illness.

He was born October 4, 1930 in Grantsville, WV, the son of Ray and Thelma Waldo. He graduated from High School and attended Glenville College, where he excelled in football.

He was employed at General Motors, Elyria Plant, was an active member of the U.A.W. Local no. 780 and was elected Shop Chairman.

Jim was an active member of the Abbe Road Baptist Church, where he spent much of his time with the AWANA Program for youth at both Abbe Road Baptist and First Baptist Church. He enjoyed reading, fishing and sports.

Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gerri E. (nee Shaw); daughter Pamela S. (Wayne) Childs of Elyria; sons James T. (Diane) Waldo, Jr. of Dayton; Jeffrey Waldo of Findlay and David Waldo of Elyria; seven grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and a sister MaryAnn OHair of Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Leslie Ann Waldo; sister Martha and brother Ray Waldo.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. Funeral service will be Monday 10:30 a.m. at Abbe Road Baptist Church, 670 N. Abbe Rd., Elyria, with Reverend David Dunkin officiating. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery and memorial contributions may be made to Sky View Ranch to further educate and minister to youth, C/O Skyview Ranch 7241 Township Road 319 Millersburg, Ohio 44654.
