Jean A. Grenell, 84, of Elyria, died March 31, 2011.
She was born January 14, 1927 in Darien, Wisconsin, attended Marquette University, where she received a degree as a dental hygienist and later received an associate degree in accounting from Lorain County Community College. She was formerly employed by Northern Ohio Roofing and H & R Block.
She met the love of her life, Howard Grenell, in Milwaukee and they were married in 1950.
After moving to Washington DC, she worked for the public health department and has been a resident of Elyria since 1954. She was a fifty-five year member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, served as church parish visitor, served on numerous church committees and was an enthusiastic participant in the church pew needlepoint project, which depictions were designed by church artists, based on bible verses.
She was active in bridge clubs, Cotillion, Harbortown Knitting Circle and Town & Gown Choristers of Oberlin. She was a gourmet cook, known for her pies, loved to dance, sing and traveled around the world with her husband. She was a direct Mayflower descendant of William Brewster and was active in the Mayflower Society.
Jean is survived by her husband of sixty years, Howard; children Sue, Sally and Dave and six grandchildren.
Friends will be received Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of a 2:00p.m. service at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave. Elyria, OH with Reverend Christina Kukuk officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
