Jean Marie Skidmore (nee Szczepanski/Spanski), died at 78, Tuesday, August 5, 2025 due to end stage kidney/heart failure. The most important thing to Jean was her relationship with Jesus.
Born March 3, 1947 in Elyria, she grew up in Grafton and graduated Midview in 1965. A lifelong Lorain County resident, she also lived in Avon and Elyria. Aunt Jeanne, had that classic 'Spanski' sense of humor. If you know, you know.
Born to document, she fastidiously catalogued every detail of her life, and sent many cards in her signature black Sharpie marker. She looked for ways to help her neighbor by providing a hand, a ride, or encouraging words. Jean especially enjoyed collecting dolls, crafting, and artwork. She loved to create, another 'Spanski' trait. Her mixed media painting 'The Enchanted Woods' won a Scholastic Achievement in ART award.
She is preceded in death by baby son, Charles Skidmore, Jr.; parents, Ann (nee Gravila) and Stanley Szczepanski/Spanski; older siblings, Stanley Spanski and Judy Hughes.
Survived by brother, Robert (Debbie) Spanski; former husband, Charlie Skidmore; and long time close companion, Bob Underwood.
Thank you to Sharon (Fairchild) Patalon, who faithfully stood in the gap helping and befriending Jean in so many different ways over the years.
To those of Hospice of the Western Reserve and North Ridge caregivers who 'bestowed care with genuine compassion', you are deeply appreciated.
Sincere gratitude to David and staff at Dicken Funeral Home for their warmth, responsiveness and guidance.
Private burial at Resthaven, Avon, Ohio.
