JoAnn C. Thorley

JoAnn Thorley (nee Boddy), 94, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 23, 2024.  She was a lifelong Elyria resident and a 1947 graduate of Elyria High School.  She was preceded in death by Albert, her husband of 70 years; infant daughter; parents, Lillian (nee Schnarr) and Joseph Boddy; brothers, Gordon and Don Boddy and sisters, Dorothy Barbour, Charlain Snider, Loretta Sederis and June Boddy.  JoAnn is survived by daughters, Jill (Jerry) Pearl, Jane (Gary) Hannah, Beth (Eric) Liederbach, Barbara (Tom) Kraus and Amy Thomas; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

JoAnn was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She perfected the art of homemaking through her cooking, baking and hospitality.  She often opened up her home to larger gatherings of friends and family.  And she did it all with joy and great humor.  In times of quiet, JoAnn would study her Bible, work on needlepoint, and tend to her bird feeders.  She was a member of Solid Rock Community Church.

The family extends their deep gratitude and thanks to Griswold Home Care and their exceptional caregivers, especially, Kathy, DeAnn and Ruth for their long-time dedication.  They also thank Western Reserve Hospice Care.

Visitation and service will be held Monday, October 28 at Solid Rock Community Church, 680 Abbe Road N., Elyria, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the service at 11:00 a.m.  JoAnn will be laid to rest in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio, 5510 Baumhart Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053.
