Josil A. Howington

Josil A. Howington (nee Gunnoe), 91, of Elyria, died Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Mercy New Life Hospice.  She was born January 17, 1934 in Peytona, WV and grew up in Nellis, WV.  She was a 1952 graduate of Warren Wilson High School, Ashville, NC and has been a resident of  Elyria since 1961.  Josil is a member of Community of Faith United Church of Christ and a former longtime member of First United Presbyterian Church.  She was a devoted homemaker, enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with family and friends. Josil was a star-player in her neighborhood beanbag baseball league and an avid Cleveland sports fan. 

Josil is survived by daughters, Barbara (Allen) Peterson of Bellview and Joyce (Keith) Sibert of Elyria; son, Charles (Rose) Howington of Lake St. Louis, MO; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; twin sister, Josephine (Frank) Weaver; sisters, Linda Martin, Betty Pennington and Pam Hucka and son-in-law, Robert Huston.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Bill in 2017; daughter, Carolyn Huston; grandson, Brian Huston; parents, Cyril and Pauline Gunnoe; brothers, Cyril, Jr and David Gunnoe and a sister, Mary Gunnoe.

Friends will be received Thursday, June 12, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria.  A memorial service will be Friday, June 13, 2025 at 11:00 am in Community of Faith United Church of Christ, 9715 East River Road, Elyria with Reverend Delisa Buckingham-Taylor officiating.  Private burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
