Larry Westbrook Obituary

Larry D. Westbrook, 94, of Elyria, died Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home.

He was born June 1, 1917 in Bedford, OH and attended Marietta High School, after which he worked in the Civil Conservation Corps, moving to Elyria in 1939.

He served as a First Class Petty Officer with the U.S. Navy during WWII in Trinidad and the British West Indies.

Larry was employed as a master welder at Pfaudler Company in Elyria from 1942 until retiring in 1981, and then enjoyed spending the winters with his wife in the Fort Myers, FL area.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Elyria Lodge #787 F. & A.M. and Elyria V.F.W. Post #1079. Other interests included fishing, hunting and golf.

He recorded his first hole-in-one at Forest Hills Golf Coarse at the age of 74 and his second hole-in-one at Carlisle Golf Club at the age of 78.

Larry is survived by brothers Donald and Paul Westbrook, both of Elyria; sisters Gwendolyn Binegar of Baltimore, OH and Gladys Dozante of Macedonia, OH; nephew David Westbrook of Elyria; nieces Sharon Dove of Medina and Charlotte Bowser of Northfield, OH and several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Winifred M. in 2004, parents Gale and Ora Westbrook and half brothers, Clifford and Clyde Moore.

Friends will be received Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave. Elyria, where a funeral service will be Thursday 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dalton D. Love officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, where Elyria V.F.W. Post #1079 will present military honors.
