Lawrence Harris Obituary

Lawrence Laverne Harris passed away June 15, 2024, in Oberlin, Ohio. He was born May 25, 1946 in Seattle, Washington to John and La Verna (nee Duncan) Harris.

He grew up in Vernonia and Beaverton, Oregon, where he met and married his childhood sweetheart, Judy Nolan June 14, 1968. They had three children: Scott Nolan (1973), Melinda Lee (1975) and Kathryn Emilie (1979). Larry and Judy lived their lives in Hillsboro, Oregon where he served as a police officer for the City of Hillsboro for 35 years, retiring in 2003. In January 2024, he moved to Oberlin, Ohio to be near his youngest daughter and her family.

Throughout his life, Larry enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a leader in the Boy Scouts of America, a soccer coach and resident videographer for all high school shows. He spent summers camping and working on his boat. Larry taught his children to water ski and drive a car. He was quick to tease, to tell a joke and to drive you anywhere you needed or wanted to go. He loved his grandchildren and their many activities and was always happy to watch someone he loved do something amazing.

Larry is survived by daughter, Mindy (husband Bill) Burel and their daughter, Camille; daughter, Kate (husband Dan) Clark and their children, Dominic and Emmie and a brother, Ken Harris.

He was preceded in death by a son Scott in 2000 and wife Judy in 2020.

Larry will be interred at Fir Lawn Cemetery in Hillsboro in the summer of 2024.
