Marlene C. Matus (nee Barefoot), 71, of Elyria, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 23, 2024 after a lengthy illness. She was born February 10, 1953 in Elyria and was a 1971 graduate of Firelands High School and homecoming queen. For 25 years, she was employed at US Bank. Marlene was a lifetime member of The Sanctuary at The Congregational Church of South Amherst. She was an avid sports fan, especially of the Cleveland Browns and Indians. She also enjoyed being with her family, playing cards and games. She faithfully attended monthly meetings with her high school classmates.
Marlene is survived by husband, John; sisters, Bonnie (Ted) Freas of Seville, Pamela (Dale) Kinsley of Vermilion and Lee Ann (Chris) Jones of Columbia Station; brothers, Dick Barefoot of Bowling Green, KY and Tom (Sandy) Barefoot of Lorain and numerous nieces and nephews she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Milford and Marjorie (nee Woods) Barefoot; sister, Jacqueline Coots and a sister-in-law, Linda Barefoot.
Friends will be received Friday, July 26, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A funeral service will be Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 11:00 am at The Sanctuary, 114 W. Main Street, South Amherst with Reverend Art Wiegand. Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
