Mary Jane Fitch

Mary Jane Fitch, 94, passed away Monday, April 29, 2024. She was born September 13, 1929 in Lodi, Ohio to Edward and Louise Bartholomai.  Jane was a graduate of Lodi High School and went on to graduate from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1951 with a bachelor of arts degree and was a member of Delta Gamma sorority.

Jane married William “Bill” Fitch in 1951 and made their home in Elyria. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. An active member of her community, she volunteered for over 40 years at Elyria Memorial Hospital, serving as treasurer and president of the auxiliary board.  She was also a member of The Junior Women’s Club, The League of Women Voters and one of the founding members of The Garden Club of Elyria. She also worked as a poll worker for many elections.

As a member of Elyria Country Club, she played golf for many years. Jane also enjoyed playing tennis and was a member of many bridge clubs. She traveled extensively with her husband throughout the world, although two of their favorite destinations were Ft. Myers Beach, Florida and Chautauqua Lake, New York.

Jane is survived by her children, Virginia (Bob) Green, Bill (Lori) Fitch, Tom (Lou Ann) Fitch and Sally (Bill) Carter; grandchildren, Matthew (Sarah) Green, Jackie (Matt) Robertson, Jay (Dhara) Fitch, Jon (Heather) Fitch, Joe (Kristen) Fitch, Andrew (Caitlin) Fitch, Tyler (Allie) Fitch, Stephen (Rachel) Fitch, Paige Carter, Erin Carter and Will Carter and 12 great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Bill, in 2013; parents, Edward and Louise Bartholomai; and sisters, Ann (Roy) Holzer and Janet (Major General Dick) Rowland.

A memorial service will be Friday, May 10, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Wesleyan Village, 807 West Avenue, Elyria.  Private burial will be in North Murray Ridge Cemetery.
