Norman James Bennett, 77, of Rocky River, died Wednesday September 11, 2024 at Rocky River Village. He was born February 4, 1947 in Cleveland and was a 1967 graduate of Lorain High School. While in high school, he was a journalist and wrote a column in the school paper called Norm’s drag, all about hot rod cars. From 1968-1970, Norm served with the US Army and was stationed in Ft. Knox and Germany. He later earned an associates degree from Lorain County Community College. He was a machine operator with General Motors Fischer Body in Elyria, Lordstown GM and retired from the Mansfield GM plant. Norm was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Lorain, had a sports pilot’s license and enjoyed flying small aircraft. He was an avid skier and enjoyed skiing in Colorado and collected antique furniture and Persian rugs.
Norm is survived by his brothers, Joseph (Michelle) of Elyria, Jerry of Lorain and Christopher of Lakewood; nieces; nephews and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Peter in 2002; mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Josephine (nee Fracchione) in 2008 and brothers, Richard in 1988 and Jay in 2009.
Interment will be Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at 1:15 pm in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio.
