Phyllis Joanne Saxon

The Lord called home Phyllis Joanne Saxon October 21, 2023. Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, godmother, confirmation sponsor and friend to all those that knew her. She was born in Elyria, OH June 13, 1935 to John and Clara Marta. Phyllis attended Ely School, St Mary School and Saint Mary Academy in Monroe, Michigan. Phyllis married Jim Saxon October 4, 1955 and cherished 62 years of marriage.

Phyllis was a devout Catholic and her faith was a major part of her life. She attended church every Sunday as a parishioner of St. Jude Catholic Church, Elyria and prayed the rosary daily with Mother Angelica on the EWTN television network.

She was an advocate for the intellectually disabled and elderly communities and spent much of her career working at Murray Ridge, Kendall at Oberlin and Senior Independence as a caregiver.

Most of all, Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, creating memories at Sea World, Geauga Lake, Kalahari, and Cedar Point. Her legacy of faith, compassion, and love will continue to inspire.

Phyllis is survived by sons, Mark of Elyria, Todd of Jacksonville, NC and John of Elyria; grandchildren, Zachary (Remi), Jeremy, Anthony, Joshua (Stacy), Jonathan, Garion (Cassandra) and Kanna and great-grandchildren, Morgan, Amelia, Eli and Jaxon.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband James “Jim” L. and son, James “Jamey” P. Saxon.

Friends will be received Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 5:00 pm until the time a 6:30 pm prayer service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria.  Reverend Frank P. Kosem will officiate.  Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
