Richard M. Giesel

Richard M. Giesel, 86, went home to be with His Lord and Savior Thursday, June 24, 2010, at Keystone Pointe Health Care Center, surrounded by his family. Richard was born February 10, 1924 in Chardon, Ohio, moving to LaGrange in 1945 and has been a resident of The Abbewood in Elyria since 2007. Richard served with the U.S. Army during WWII. And was then employed at Ridge Tool Company and then as a job setter at General Industries in Elyria, after which he worked for 21 years as maintenance supervisor at Elyria Savings and Trust(now First Merit)retiring in 1995. After retirement he worked at LaGrange Screw Products and Micron and was also a host greeter for the Cleveland Indians from 2000-20004. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of LaGrange, serving as song leader, Sunday School Superintendent and Adult Sunday School Teacher for several years. In the 1960s he became a member of First Baptist Church of Elyria. He enjoyed working in his garden, watching his grandsons play sports and had built eight houses in LaGrange. Richard is survived by his wife of 66 years, Phyllis (nee: Weaver); daughters, Rebecca(Michael)Petruna, Pamela Owen, Christine(Richard)Bowers and a son Timothy(Linda)Giesel; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Alfred Giesel; sisters, Jennie Gehring, Elsie Black, Dorothy McDonald and Anna Zimmerman and brothers, Alfred and Harold Giesel. A graveside service for the family will be held at River Road Cemetery, LaGrange with Reverend Noel Hack officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Lagrange, PO Box 136, Lagrange or First Baptist Church of Elyria, 11400 LaGrange Road, Elyria. Dicken Funeral Home, Elyria, is in charge of arrangements.
