Robert F. Schaffer

Robert F. Schaffer, 86, of Elyria, died Monday April 14, 2025 in his home.  He was born September 19, 1938 in Elyria and was a 1956 graduate of Elyria High School.  From 1959-1962, Bob served in the US Army National Guard.  He was employed as a machinist for 42 years at Ohio Screw Products, from where he retired.  Bob was a ham radio enthusiast and was known by his call sign, K8RLX.  He volunteered countless hours as a Lorain County Sheriff Auxiliary Deputy.  He enjoyed vacationing by the Gulf of Mexico on Sanibel Island, Florida, and tending to his vegetable gardens throughout the years.  One of his favorite retirement pastimes was bicycling daily on the North Coast Inland bike trail; most days making a trip from Elyria to the end in Kipton and back.

Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years, Edie; sons, David (Elaine) Schaffer of Wheeling, WV and William (Christy) Schaffer of Wellington; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Margaret Schaffer and granddaughters, Heather and Kelly.

Services and burial will be private.
