Roger M. Hooper, age 59, of Ash Flat, Arkansas, died Friday, March 17, 2006 in Northern Massachusetts while working at his job as a semi-truck driver. He was born November 9, 1946 in Sylva, NC. He had also lived in Dayton, Oh, Elyria, Oh, North Ridgeville, Oh, Fishers, IN and Auburndale, FL. He attended Elyria High School, North Ridgeville High School and Lorain County Community College. Roger served with the US Navy in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post #4772 and Disabled American Veterans. At one time, he was a circulation manager for the Medina Gazette Newspaper. He has been an over the road truck driver since 1971 and received many safe driving awards. He was a certified driver trainer and was nominated for the Goodyear Highway Hero Award.
Roger is survived by his mother, Alice Turner of Elyria; twin brother, Richard M. Hooper, Sr. of Elyria; two nephews and one great nephew.
He was preceded in death by his father, Weston H. Hooper in 1981 and sister, Kathy Brewer in 1995.
Visitation will be Thursday, 6-9pm in the Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria where a funeral service will be Friday at 1:30pm. Reverend Rick Young will officiate and burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. V.F.W. Post#1070 will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
