Ronald E. Fahrney, 90, a lifelong Elyria resident, passed away January 17, 2026. He was born November 11, 1935 in Elyria and was a 1959 graduate of Elyria High School.
Ron served his country as a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War. After his service, he built a life defined by hard work and an entrepreneurial spirit. Ron held many jobs, including bread and milk delivery, real estate agent, life insurance salesman, cemetery plot salesman, carpet sales, auctioneer, kitchen cabinet specialist, lumber yard foreman, and paper motor route supervisor at the Chronicle Telegram. Of all his pursuits, he most enjoyed resale—earning the affectionate nickname “the Junk Man.” Ron could often be found picking up discarded furniture, scouring garage sales and storage units, hosting yard sales, or working his booth at the flea market.
He enjoyed time with family, walks at the mall and a bite to eat with friends, and greeting fellow members at the Center Church of the Nazarene. He always kept a collection of jokes ready to share, and his sense of humor will be missed.
Ron is survived by his sister Doris; sons, Barry (Becky) of Oklahoma City, OK, and Jeffrey (Lois) of Elyria; daughter, Sherry (John) Miller of Vermilion; daughter-in-law, Carolyn of Spencer, OK; grandchildren, Marie, Matt, Josh, Brian, Carrie, Stephanie, and Amber and great-grandchildren, Dakota, Aubrey, Kaleb, Landon, Madeline, and Isabella.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Doris in 2016; brothers, Richard, Charles, William, and Dale; a sister, Betty; and parents, Charles and Thelma.
Friends and family will be received Wednesday, January, 21, 2026 from 10:00 am until the time of a 12:00 pm service celebrating his life at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria led by his great-niece, Traci Jo Harmon. Burial will follow at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria where Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will present military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to Center Church of the Nazarene, 1107 Clemens Avenue, Elyria.
