Roy K. Cannon

Roy K. Cannon, 83, of Elyria, died Tuesday June 15, 2010 at his home. He was born November 28, 1926 in Alton, Illinois and graduated form Alton High School in 1944. He attended DePauw University and Purdue University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois in 1948 where he was a member of Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Honorary Fraternity.

He served with the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 and has been a resident of Elyria since 1960. He was employed for 40 years by Electro-Alloys in Chicago and Elyria, 26 years as General Sales Manager and then as a Sales Representative. He had also worked for Alloy Engineering Company as a Sales Representative. He was a life member of the American Society for Metals, past member of the American Petroleum Society where he chaired a committee for high temperature materials, and a past member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Elyria, where he had served on and had been a chairman of numerous committees including Chairman of the Staff Parish Relations Committee, Past President of the Administrative Council and the Trustees. He was an usher and attended Bible study classes for many years, was active in Stephens Ministries and was a volunteer for the Hot Meals Program at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. and a hospice volunteer. He was a member of Elyria Mens Senior Fellowship and a former member of Elyria Rotary, Sales and Marketing Executives and had been active in Eastern Heights P.T.A. His other interests included swimming, which he had formerly taught; working in the yard and garden especially with roses.

Roy is survived by his wife, Marjorie G. Cannon of Elyria; daughters, Janel (Carl) Gelo, of Strongsville, Ohio, Mindy (Eric) Rosseland, of Jefferson, New Hampshire; grandsons, Scott Gelo and Kyle Suva and sister Helen Riecks of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary E. Cannon in 2003; brothers, James and George Cannon; parents, W. Arthur and Mariemma Cannon.

Visitation will be Friday, June 18 from 5-8 P.M. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A funeral service will be Saturday 11:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, 312 Third Street, Elyria, Ohio. Reverend Roger Talbott and Pastor Dianne Tobey Covault will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 312 Third Street, Elyria, Ohio, 44035.
