Ruth H Hostetler

Ruth H. Hostetler (nee Wash), 99, a life long Elyria resident, died Friday, September 26, 2025.  She was born January 31, 1926 in Elyria to Rosa and William Wash who immigrated to Elyria in 1913 from Baja, Esztergom, Hungary.  Ruth was a remarkable cook of hearty Hungarian foods and pastries.  She enjoyed passing down the family recipes to her children and caregivers.  As a mother to five children, she was kind, patient and always happy to engage in swimming, camping and gardening. 

Ruth is survived by children, Jeff, John and Jay Hostetler and Lauren Wenzel and grandsons, Andrew and Brendan Wenzel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnathan K. in 2008; daughter, Lynne in 2005 and siblings, William Wash, Rose Zicarelli and Elizabeth Keister.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at 12:00 pm at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria with Reverend Kathryn Ketchum officiating.  Burial will follow in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
