Sandra “Sandy” Winder, 82, of Elyria, died Sunday February 4, 2024 at Lake Point Health Care, Lorain. She was born January 14, 1942 in Oberlin and graduated from Oberlin High School. In the early 1970’s, Sandra owned and operated Winder’s Day Care, the first black owned day care center in Lorain County. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, crocheting and spending time with her family.
Sandra is survived by a daughter, Deborah (Carzell Logan) Winder of Elyria; son, Kreg Winder of Maryland; grandchildren, Siera Smith and DeeDee Tate; six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Winder, Sr. in 2021; son, Richard Winder, Jr.; grandson, Bryan Winder and parents, John and Virginia Bryant.
Friends will be received Tuesday, February 13, 2024 from 11:00 am until the time of a noon service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. Reverend Dr. Carl P. Small, Pastor of Second Baptist Church, Elyria will officiate. Burial will follow in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
