Sheryl A. Schmidt

Sheryl A. Schmidt, 79, of Elyria, died Sunday September 7, 2025 at Wesleyan Village.  She was born May 3, 1946 in Cleveland and was a 1964 graduate of Elyria High School during which time she received honors for her science projects.  She received a bachelor of science degree in 1968 from Baldwin Wallace College and a masters degree in inorganic chemistry from Iowa State University in 1970.  Sheryl was employed for 29 years as an analytical chemist at Standard Oil/British Petroleum in Warrensville Heights research and development lab retiring as manager of the analytical chemistry division of BP America.  She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ (where she also ran the food pantry for a number of years), Elyria, American Legion Post 12 Auxiliary and Elyria VFW 1079 Auxiliary.  She had owned several Egyptian Arabian horses and enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time at her summer cottage in PA. 

Sheryl is survived by cousins, Jeffrey Irvine of Beachwood and Brian Irvine of Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ludwig and Irene Schmidt.

A memorial service will be Sunday, September 14, 2025 at 1:00 pm in the courtyard at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 330 Second Street, Elyria with Reverend Patrick Nicolino officiating.  Inurnment will be in the church columbarium.
