Susan Kay Myers, 68, passed away peacefully at her home in Grafton June 28, 2024. She was born in Detroit, MI June 24, 1956 to parents, Jessie and A.J. ‘Woody’ Varney. Shortly after, the family moved to Kentucky before finally settling in Northeast Ohio.
Susan was a 1974 graduate of Elyria High School and earned a teaching degree from Miami University. She retired from Midview Public Schools after a fulfilling career as a third and fourth grade intervention specialist. She was a longtime member of LaPorte United Methodist Church. Susan met her two lifelong best friends, Denise Stammitti and Lynn Smith, while attending school in Elyria. The trio lovingly became known as ‘the three musketeers’ and remained close up until her passing. Shortly after high school, Susan met the love of her life and husband of nearly 44 years, Ronald Myers, with whom she had two beloved children. Susan was known by her family and friends as a professional shopper-if there was a bargain to be had, she found it. She loved traveling, and especially looked forward to her annual family girls trip to Key West, FL each spring break. Spring was also a special time for Susan because she enjoyed gardening at her home in Grafton. She loved filling flower pots with colorful blooms and growing vegetables, especially her favorite, string beans. What Susan loved the most was spending time with her family. She was happiest when she was with those she loved most and who loved her equally in return. Susan was once described as ‘one who feels the heart of another’. She was selfless in her giving, full of empathy and wished only the best for those she loved. Susan was patient, kind, and will be unendingly missed.
Susan is survived by her husband, Ron; daughter, Lindsay (John Yost) Myers; son, Andrew (Miranda) Myers; granddaughter, Maise Myers; sister, Ashley Varney; brother, Brandon Varney; aunts, Grace (Bill) Warner and Rowena (Larry) Gendics and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received Friday, July 5, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A funeral service will be Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 11:00 am at LaPorte United Methodist Church, 2071 Grafton Road, Elyria with Reverend William Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Butternut Ridge Cemetery, Eaton Township.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to LaPorte United Methodist Church or The American Cancer Society, East Central Division, PO Box 1981, Cleveland, Ohio 44106 or a charity of choice.
