Thomas Overs, SR. Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Tom Overs, a devoted husband, father, papa, and friend, who left us peacefully Monday, March 31, 2025 at the age of 77. Tom's life was one full of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Tom was born August 26, 1947 in Lodi, Ohio and was a 1965 graduate of Elyria High School.

Tom’s pride and passion was his family. As a proud grandfather, he cherished every moment spent with them, offering guidance, love, and encouragement. His commitment to family was at the heart of everything he saw as leading to a successful life—whether it was supporting or coaching at sports events or simply enjoying time together.

Tom enjoyed coaching people whether in sports or at Elyria Memorial Hospital where he was a Radiology Technician for 30 years. He was a mentor to many new Radiology Techs helping them learn not only how to operate the equipment but treating patients in a difficult situation at the hospital. Coaching little league gave him great pleasure working with kids for over 7 years developing their baseball skills but also their team work.

A true lover of travel, Tom explored the world with his family. He included his love for baseball during his travels visiting baseball stadiums across the United States. His passion for sports extended far beyond watching games—he enjoyed baseball, softball, and basketball. He was also a legend in his own right at Stoney’s, where his skill as a pool player was unrivaled. As a lifelong golf enthusiast, he lived for golf outings with friends, providing him with some of his favorite memories.

Tom was also an adventurer at heart, always ready to go whether accompanying Heather to Europe, going to baseball games, or planning a special trip with Susan. He loved traveling with the love of his life and family, creating memories that would last a lifetime. His fearless spirit was also evident when he braved a hurricane in Maui, never shying away from a challenge.

Tom was a true sports fanatic, always following his favorite teams and players, but his most treasured athletes were those closest to him—his son Tom and his grandson Grant. Whether near or far, his support and encouragement never wavered.

One of the most unforgettable moments in Tom’s life was watching his grandson, Grant, win the State Championship during a blizzard, a memory that will forever be etched in the hearts of his family. Even in the face of illness, Tom was determined to be there for that momentous occasion. His dedication to his family was evident in every choice he made, and he set an example of love, strength, and perseverance.

A man who never met a stranger, Tom had a unique ability to connect with others. His warmth, loyalty, and generosity made him a beloved friend and a constant source of support for those around him. He truly lived life to the fullest, and his legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Tom leaves behind his beloved wife; Susan (nee Yearley); children, Tom (Lori) and Heather (Jason); grandchildren, Bailey, Caroline, and Grant and a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helen Overs and brothers, Paul and Dave Overs.

Rest in peace, Tom. Your love, laughter, and inspiration will forever be missed, but never forgotten.

Friends will be received Monday, April 7, 2025 from 2:00 pm until the time of a 3:00 pm memorial service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria with Reverend Kathryn Ketchum officiating.
