Toby Kurtz Obituary

Toby Kurtz, 47, of Elyria, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2025.  She was born February 22, 1978 in Ft. Hood, TX.

A proud 1996 graduate of Elyria High School, Toby cherished her time in marching band and the friendships that shaped her.  Her caring spirit and bright energy touched everyone she met.  Her desire for learning led her to LCCC, where she earned a Certificate in Computer Information Systems-Software Development and continued working toward an Associate Degree in Business with a focus on Web and Graphic Design. Toby approached every goal with quiet strength, determination and a heart full of purpose.

Toby dedicated over 20 years to Walmart before sharing her compassion and dedication with Discount Fashion Warehouse then Abbewood Assisted Living.  She found joy in life’s simple comforts-cozy nights watching her favorite TV shows and homeschooling her niece, Keira, with love and patience.  Her gentle heart and giving spirit blessed everyone who knew her.

Toby is survived by her mother, Sheryl Gerhart Searcy; brother, Troy Kurtz (Amy); sister, Cathrine Muniz; niece, Keira Searcy and nephews, William Ross (Meggan), Tavon Kurtz, Josh Kurtz, Deion Kurtz, Tristan Taylor Jr. and Luis Muniz.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Searcy; sister, Leathy Searcy and grandparents, Norm and Mona Lou Gerhart and Lizzie King.

A celebration of life will be Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 3pm to 8pm at Amvets Post 32, 11087 Middle Ave., Elyria.
