Walter E. Spencer

Walter E. Spencer, 54, of Lakewood, Ohio, died September 30, 2010. Walter was a graduate of Lakewood High School and Tulane University, receiving his PhD. in Philology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He was a professor of Latin at the University of Illinois, and Case Western Reserve University, and most recently a teacher in Greenville, NC. He was a member of several professional organizations including the American Classical League and the Classical Association of the Middle West and South. Walter is survived by his father, Walter O. Spencer of Seattle; WA, and his sister, Mary Baker; brother-in-law Gary and nephews Brian and Drew Baker of Medina, OH. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Patricia Spencer in 2007. A graveside service for the family will be October 7, 2010 at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, Ohio, with Reverend Catherine L. Wright, Rector of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, officiating. Dicken Funeral Home, Elyria, is in charge of arrangements.
