Wanda Mae (nee Ingersoll) Currier, 91, a beloved resident of Elyria, passed away peacefully August 5, 2025 at Wesleyan Village surrounded by her cherished family. She was born September 8, 1933, in Kipton, Ohio the youngest daughter of Charles and Ethel (nee Perkins) Ingersoll. She was a 1951 graduate of Camden High School, where she sang in the high school quartet.
Wanda’s college journey began in 1967 at LCCC, where she graduated with honors and then pursued her education at Baldwin Wallace College, graduating in 1974. Her teaching career began at St. Joseph School in Amherst, where she dedicated two years of her teaching life. Her passion for teaching led her to South Amherst Schools, where she found joy in teaching 4th grade. During the South Amherst - Firelands school merger, she transferred to a Firelands elementary school but ultimately returned to her beloved South Amherst building. Wanda’s remarkable career spanned over four decades, retiring in 1998. Wanda’s adventurous spirit knew no bounds. She embarked on a global journey, visiting all 50 states, 31 countries, and all seven continents. Her final destination was the Antarctic, where she had the privilege of setting foot on the icy continent in 2010. As her attending nurse remarked upon her passing, Wanda had now embarked on her eighth continent. Wanda’s resilience was evident as she endured two battles with breast cancer. In 2021, she found solace and care at Wesleyan Village, where she resided until her passing.
Wanda is survived by her daughters, Patricia Ann (Jeff) Barnum of Valley City, Karen Joy (Michael) Chapman and Linda Christine (Robert) Tokas both of Elyria. She is also blessed with grandchildren, Kristina (Nicholas) Spishak, Michael (Rachael) Chapman, Andrew Chapman, Mary Schwab, and five great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her son, David Lee Currier; granddaughter, Beverly Ann Barnum; her parents, Charles and Ethel; brother, Ivan and sisters, Donna Logan and Rita Williams.
In lieu of flowers, Wanda had kindly requested that memorial contributions be made to the Elyria Public Library, First Congregational United Church of Christ, or Wesleyan Village in Elyria.
Friends will be received Tuesday, August 12, 2025 from 10:00 am until the time of a 12:00 pm service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria with Reverend Patrick Nicolino officiating. Private burial will be in Camden Cemetery, Camden Township.
