Wilfred L. Martin

Wilfred L. Larry Martin, 81, of Elyria Township, died Monday November 22, 2010 at Center Ridge Health Campus.
He was born January 22, 1929 in Munising, MI. Larry served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge and the tanker USS Ashtabula in the Mediterranean and the Japanese occupation.
He was employed for thirty years at Ford Motor Company Engine Plant 2 in Brook Park, retiring in 1985. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Elyria Senior Fellowship, Elyria V.F.W. #1079 and Elyria American Legion Post 12.
He was a volunteer fireman for Elyria Township Fire Department and the Lorain County Sheriffs Department Auxiliary. He especially enjoyed fishing and also woodworking.
Larry is survived by his wife of 60 years Donna C. (nee Fortin); sons Dale L. (Barbara) Martin of Wellington and Glenn P. Martin of Elyria Township; daughters Cheryl M. (Kenneth) Greszler of Oberlin and Laura J. (Robert) McCoy of Granville, OH; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and a sister Dorothy Boyd of Wickliffe, OH.
He was preceded in death by brothers Willard and Milton Martin; sister Norma and parents Curtis and Loretta Martin.
Friends will be received Friday from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave. Elyria. A funeral service will be Saturday 11 a.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 330 Second Street, Elyria with Reverend Christina Kukuk officiating.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township where Elyria V.F.W. #1079 will conduct military honors.
