William Wallhead, Jr., 91, of Elyria, died March 23, 2024 at their winter residence in Zephyrhills, FL. He was born March 15, 1933 in his home in Elyria to Margaret (nee Toth) and William Wallhead. He was a 1951 graduate of Elyria High School and served in the US Army. Bill married his wife of 70 years, Diane (nee Wonder) in 1953. He was employed as a tool and dye maker at General Motors, Elyria transferring to Meridian, MS from where he retired after 38 years in 1989. Bill was a member of Community of Faith United Church of Christ. His interests included flying his dad’s plane, traveling, reading, church activities and working on various projects.
Bill is survived by his wife, Diane; children, Janine (Steven Szilagyi) Chapman of Palm Coast, FL, William “Jeff” Wallhead, Valerie (Wayne Peltz) Collins and Cindy (Phil Peterson) Johnson all of Elyria; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews to carry on his legacy. He is also survived by sisters, Audrey Price of Elyria and Barb Opfer of LaGrange.
He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws; grandson, Greg; sister, Arlene Wallhead Knepper and a brother, Don Wallhead.
Friends will be received Sunday, May 12, 2024 from 11:30 am until the time of a 12:30 pm memorial service at Community of Faith United Church of Christ, 9715 East River Road, Elyria. Following the service, friends are invited to a cabbage roll and paprikash dinner in the fellowship hall of the church.
