Wilma L. Bazley

Our beloved mother, Wilma L. Bazley, (nee Smith), 92, passed away September 18, 2023 surrounded by love with family by her side. She was born November 1, 1930 in Elyria where she lived most of her life.  She was a 1948 graduate of Elyria High School and married her high school sweetheart in 1949.

Wilma was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend, with family being her number one priority. She had a sense of fun, a beautiful smile, an easy laugh, a strong will and a definite opinion.

Her first job was a dental receptionist, then supporting her husband in the family business, Packing House Meat Market.  Widowed at the age of 40, she found work at Ridge Tool Company to provide for herself and her children. Once retired, she found pleasure in volunteering for the Office of Aging, Crestwood and Spring Valley schools, and Salvation Army.  She was a member of The Red Hat Society, Ridge Tool Retirees and Lake Avenue United Church of Christ which transitioned to Community of Faith UCC.  She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities, bus trips and traveling with family and friends.

Her top priorities included her children; Vic (Cheryl) Bazley of Elyria, Tom (Rita) Bazley of Elyria, Pat (Jeff) Smith of Jacksonville, FL and Betty (John) Fisher of Sheffield Village, OH; grandchildren, Victor Bazley, Jr., Bryan (Ashley) Bazley, Kim O’Hara, Greg Bazley and Megan Fisher; 6 great grandchildren; “bonus daughter”, Denise Smith of Elyria and sisters-in-law, Emily Morrison of Maine and Kathy Bazley of Grafton.

Loved ones gone before her include, her husband, Booth M. Bazley in 1970; parents, Edmund and Matilda Smith; brothers, Edmund (Eileen) Smith and Robert (Elaine) Smith and brother-in-law, John Bazley.

A private graveside service will be September 25, 2023 at Brookdale Cemetery with Reverend Arik Borstad officiating.
