Adelbert Charles Obituary
Adelbert K. “Doug” Charles, Jr., 80, died April 26, 2021 at his home in Mission Viejo, California after a prolonged illness. He was a 1958 graduate of Lorain High School where he was a National Merit Scholar. He graduated from Yale University in 1962, earned his MBA from Columbia University, and his JD from Yale Law School. He practiced law in NYC where he met his future wife, Marianne. Doug and his family owned and operated Del Lumber Company in Elyria for over 45 years. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, a member and an active supporter of Elyria Rotary and supported Lorain County Community College. Doug is survived by daughters, Dr. Christina Charles-Schoeman (husband Gary) and Catherine E. Manley (husband Kirk), Esq. and grandchildren, Isabelle and Madeleine Schoeman and Colt Manley. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Marianne, and parents, Del and Fannie Charles. The Charles family will receive friends Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A funeral service will be Friday, May 21, 2021 at 12:30 pm at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 330 Second Street, Elyria with Reverend Patrick Nicolino officiating. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery Elyria. Covid-19 precautions will be observed, face masks are required.
