Albert Goodman Obituary
Albert F. Goodman, 96, of Elyria, died December 11, 2015. He was born November 25, 1919 in Elyria, attended St. John Lutheran School and was a 1939 graduate of Elyria High School. During World War II Al served with The U.S. Army Fifth Armored Division in The European Theatre, receiving five battle stars.After graduation from high school he worked at Eldotread in Elyria and following his discharge from the service he was employed at H& R Auto Parts, Timms Spring Company and retired in 1982 from Ridge Tool Company. He was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church where he was active in church affairs and a lifetime member of Elyria V.F.W. # 1079. He built super-modified and stock cars which he raced at Lorain County and Sandusky Speedways. Other interests included boating, fishing, bowling, golf, family cookouts and watching NASCAR, the Cleveland Browns and college football.Al is survived by his wife of seventy three years, Mary Lou (nee: Blaine); children, Mary Ann (Tom) Bowen of LaGrange, Gary (Leslie) Goodman of Elyria, Ronald (Mary) Goodman of Bellaire, Ohio and Lynda Mansfield (Gordon Dupree, companion) of Elyria; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Theodore Goodman of Grafton and Tyler (Joyce) Goodman of Tucson, Arizona and a sister, Marion Dobney of Elyria.He was preceded in death by his parents, Conrad and Emma (nee: Bohash) Goodman and sisters, Virginia Stevenson and Emma Nelson.Friends will be received Monday December 14, 2015 from 11:00 AM until the time of a noon service at St. John Lutheran Church, 1140 West River Road, Elyria with Pastor James Herbolsheimer officiating. Burial will be in Fields Cemetery, North Ridgeville where Elyria V.F.W. # 1079 Honor Guard will present military honors. A special thank you is extended to Crossroads Hospice for the kindness shown to Al and his family.
